CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ONTOLOGY OF THE MEGALITHIC SITE CROMELEQUE DAS FONTAINHAS

by Camila Campos, Renata Vieira and Áurea Rodrigues

The recent visit of the ontology specialist Avner Dal Bosco to CIDEHUS contributed to the development of the INT-ACT project activities. Avner's visit had two main goals: to strengthen the Évora team's capabilities in ontology development and to validate the ontology model being constructed for the Cromeleque das Fontainhas.

Avner Dal Bosco holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science, his MSc thesis was developed in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a focus on ontologies. He co-authored the paper, “Stroke Outcome Measurements from Electronic Medical Records: On the Effectiveness of Neural and Nonneural Classifiers.” His expertise was valuable to the discussions we had during the two weeks of his visit, focused on defining semantic models for the project, which are based on CIDOC CRM. These semantic models represent the essential concepts related to the past, present and future of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

During his stay, Avner Dal Bosco shared his expertise in a series of five presentations, followed by brainstorming, and different exercises and activities. These knowledge-sharing activities were aimed at enhancing the Évora team's understanding of the multiple facets involved in ontology modeling. As part of this work, the model was revised by the whole team, constituting a step of the validation process.
