First the knowledge formally registered in the literature about the selected sites will be modelled for establishing links with the acquired present human narratives. The ontologies will be used to organise what is known and what is perceived, in a way that is possible to reuse the relevant knowledge to build new experiences in informed creative ways. The ontologies will share core elements and will be specialised for each of the different sites. The quality of ontologies will be assessed to represent the common understanding of all the project partners. Workshops will be held to present, discuss and curate the proposed models.

We will develop a set of suitable methods of inquiry, utilising the wide-ranging expertise of the consortium partners for capturing intangible cultural heritage knowledge and human narratives and experiences. The transdisciplinary methodology includes multi-sited ethnography, sensory ethnographic interviews and narrative workshops brought together in the biosensorial methodology. In addition, speech analysis methods will be used for analysing narrative data to identify, extract, structure and present the 3E dimensions and visitors’ user experiences. We will also measure and evaluate the wellbeing (and other) benefits of representing the 3E dimensions in the resulting demonstrators.

We will follow a Human-Centred Design (HCD) approach to create four demonstrators, one for each of the selected cultural heritage sites. The HCD process will involve visitor requirement gathering, ideation, solution finding, synthesis, and evaluation in an iterative manner applying learnings from one demonstrator to the next. The demonstrators will also use semantic models of structured knowledge and narrative contents provided by WP1 and WP2 that integrate intangible 3E dimensions of cultural heritage with their associated tangible cultural heritage sites. These will be incorporated into the design of individual demonstrators through close collaboration with WP1 and WP2 (e.g., through design workshops). Through our innovative methods we will produce content that will be curated into more broadly accessible forms to be experienced through immersive XR demonstrators.

We will investigate methods of utilising our four demonstrators for addressing four different societal challenges, one at each of the four selected cultural heritage sites. The four societal challenges will be 1) cultural tourism, 2) ageing societies, 3) disappearing communities, and 4) immigration and multiculturalism. We will use novel creative methods such as interactive workshops to involve local communities, visitors, artists, craftspeople, civil societies, policymakers, cultural heritage organisations and others, with the goal of achieving wider stakeholder participation. Through these methods we will aim to understand how people see their lives in relation to, for instance, tangible cultural heritage sites and their 3E intangible cultural heritage dimensions. The research will also involve the use of questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, and various scenario-building activities together with the local communities to enhance their engagement. In each case study will also adapt and evaluate alternative methods of inquiry suited to the specifics of the given case study, individual demonstrator used as the immersive XR environment, and the particular heritage site.

In this Work Package we will follow established EU, national, and institutional procedures and guidelines as specified by the consortium partners for all the project management and coordination tasks. For the dissemination and communication tasks, we will follow suitable best practice procedures, as well as including novel methods of dissemination and communication to achieve maximum uptake by the scientific and professional community, the wider public, and all the project stakeholders.
