On September 26, 2025, the INT-ACT project proudly participated in the European Researchers’ Night (NEI’25), a continent-wide celebration of science and innovation that brought over 1.5 million people into direct contact with cutting-edge research across more than 460 cities in 25 countries.
In Évora, Portugal, INT-ACT was featured in the official program with an immersive digital contribution titled:
"Visita Virtual ao Cromeleque das Fontainhas" (Virtual Visit to the Cromeleque das Fontainhas)
This interactive installation and XR-based experience allowed visitors to engage with Alentejo’s megalithic heritage, not only as an archaeological site but as a living cultural expression—rich in narratives, identity, and symbolism.
As part of the event, INT-ACT premiered the short video, capturing the story behind the first immersive demonstrator developed for the project. The installation combines archaeological data, community narratives, and digital design to transport viewers into the heart of the Fontainhas megalithic site.
The demonstrator was built through a transdisciplinary collaboration of archaeologists, designers, tourism experts, and digital technologists, using XR, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling. It features:
❖ A 2-meter-high replica of a menhir, built from over 660 laser-cut MDF pieces
❖ Thematic storytelling on ritual practices, cosmology, ontologies, and sustainable tourism
❖ A design that is visually immersive, emotionally engaging, and pedagogically impactful
INT-ACT’s participation aligns with the core aims of European Researchers’ Night:
❖ Making science and research accessible to all
❖ Showcasing research’s societal relevance
❖ Fostering dialogue between researchers and citizens
INT-ACT’s contribution did just that—bridging the past and future through immersive storytelling and inclusive technology.
