From 8 to 12 October 2025, the city of Daejeon, South Korea, hosted the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR)—the world’s premier event on Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Virtual Reality (VR). As the flagship conference in the XR domain, ISMAR brings together top researchers from academia and industry to present cutting-edge advances shaping the future of immersive technologies.
INT-ACT was proud to be part of this year’s ISMAR with a poster presentation on our ongoing work in the domain of intangible cultural heritage. The presented work, titled:
"Presenting Intangible Cultural Heritage of Megalithic Sites using Immersive XR Environments"
by Masoodian, M., Aula, I., Núñez García, A., de la Fuente García, S., and Luz, S., will appear as a peer-reviewed short paper in the IEEE ISMAR 2025 Adjunct Proceedings.
The poster highlighted INT-ACT’s efforts to develop immersive Extended Reality environments that convey the deep cultural, emotional, and environmental layers of megalithic sites—in this case, focusing on Cromeleque das Fontaínhas in Portugal. By leveraging XR storytelling and participatory design, the project aims to make intangible cultural heritage more accessible, engaging, and meaningful to a wide audience, including local communities, educators, tourists, and cultural professionals.
The INT-ACT team engaged with conference participants and experts in the field of immersive technology, receiving positive feedback and building bridges for potential future collaborations across disciplines.
Participation in ISMAR 2025 marks an important milestone in INT-ACT’s journey to bridge cultural heritage with emerging technologies, reinforcing its mission to support preservation, awareness, and societal impact through innovation.
Stay tuned as we continue to explore new ways to integrate XR, ethnography, and co-creation in the service of heritage futures.
